YMCA sports programs develop more than skills—they develop character. We offer a variety of programs for youth, including Soccer, Baseball, Softball, T-ball, Wrestling, Swim Team, Cheerleading, Gymnastics, Track & Field, Basketball and Tennis. Instructors and coaches—often parent volunteers—emphasize teamwork, skill development, cooperation, and developing good values.
The Y staff looks forward to working with parents to create a positive youth sports experience for all children through the YMCA Character Development and NYSCA programs.
YMCA Character Development is challenging individuals to accept and demonstrate positive values. Our goal is to make our community stronger by helping to instill strong values in its members and participants. The core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility are taught through all YMCA sports. We start with the young because they are the future. And the principles they begin to live by today will shape who they'll become.
The National Alliance for Youth Sports (NYSCA) standards were developed to provide all youth groups with a focus on what is best for children in their growing and learning years.

THOMASVILLE YMCA YOUTH TOYS FOR TOTS TOURNAMENT

November, 2012---The Thomasville YMCA, GHSA, Georgia State Patrol and local Marine Corps joined forces to collect over 150 new and unwrapped toys, as well as 300 canned goods during the “Toys for Tots Softball Tournament”. Toys for Tots, a toy drive that is organized by the US Marines Corps Reserve, collects thousands of toys nationally to ease the burden of families that are experiencing hardships.
To participate in the tournament, each team member was required to bring one toy valued at $15. Spectators were required to bring two non-perishable food items in lieu of an entry fee.
Greer Cox, Branch Manager of the Butler-Mason YMCA saw the tournament as a way to give youth a new perspective on what the holidays are all about, “So often kids and teens can get caught up in what they want for the holidays. This type of event gives them an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of giving during the holidays, remembering that there are those less fortunate than us, and then realizing that they can make a difference in the lives of others.”
