HOPE Program

The HOPE (Helping Oncology Patients Exercise) Program is a strategic collaboration between the Thomasville YMCA and Archbold’s Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center to improve health and quality of life for cancer patients and survivors in our community.

REQUIREMENTS
Interested participants will have an evaluation scheduled at Archbold’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Center to measure strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance. If the program isn’t appropriate at this stage, patients may be offered one-on-one physical therapy treatment.  A physician’s referral to physical therapy will be necessary. When physical therapy has progressed to satisfactory, the patient will be admitted into the HOPE Program.

HOPE Program staff members have been specifically trained on how to manage program participants with cancer or those recovering from cancer, their exercise requirements and potential complications.

PROGRAM DETAILS
The program will include a physical therapy evaluation to determine appropriateness for the program, assess strength, endurance and flexibility.

After approval the patient will receive a FREE six month membership to the YMCA (provided through the Thomasville YMCA Annual Campaign scholarship fund).

Preference given to patients that have received treatment during past year.

Participants are encouraged to participate in a group class (twice a week) that includes:

Cardiovascular/strengthening exercises
Yoga and flexibility
All activity will be supervised by certified trainers at the YMCA
